Keeping an eye on the clock
Keeping an eye on the time for morning milkings is something you do every day during the milking season. But while a seemingly insignificant 15 minutes here or there can just slip by, there's a group of ladies to whom it makes all the difference.
Last year FMG paid out more than $125,000 for third party damage caused by stock on the road. Picture your cows making their own way to the shed with singular determination, all because milking is starting a little behind schedule.
How can you avoid the same loss?
- Make sure fences and gates are well maintained and in good working order.
- Make sure gates are closed and electric fences turned on when required.
- Inform your workers of their responsibility, and what they're liable for, should stock escape on the road and damage the property of others.
Make sure your insurance policy is able to cover:
- Accidental loss to the property of others that you are legally liable for as a result of your farming operations, caused either by you or your employees.
- Punitive or exemplary damages awarded against you for accidental bodily injury.
- When you are not legally liable, but feel morally obliged to pay for accidental loss to the property of others caused by stock trespassing, escaping or being driven, either by you or your employees. This cover is called Moral Obligation.
- Accidental loss to your farm fencing caused by fire, lightning, explosion, flood or storm.
