Curing a hangover
Making the time to conduct regular maintenance checks can be difficult during the busy season. Spring is a good time to improve and maintain your farming operation after the winter storms.
We know, because last year we paid out more than $800,000 for losses caused by storm damage.
How can you avoid the same loss?
- Trim branches that hang over fences, buildings, power and telephone lines. Broken branches can soon become dangerous missiles in gusty winds.
- Make sure shed roofs and doors are maintained and securely fastened.
- Move vehicles and heavy equipment out of the way of a storm. Storing them inside a farm building is the best way to avoid the risk altogether.
- Know what the weather is doing - check forecasts regularly especially if you live in areas of unpredictable weather changes such as wind prone areas.
Make sure your insurance policy is able to cover:
- Loss to your farm buildings due to accidental loss caused by fire, explosion, lightning, hail, snow and storm or flood.
- Loss to your farm fencing for fire, lightning, explosion flood or storm.
- Loss to your farm bridge, livestock and vehicle underpass and culvert for accidental loss, including a washout.
- Liability insurance for damage to others' property.
