Plant shelter belts to help save your buildings
A nor' westerly gale, a southerly blast, or an easterly storm ... no matter where it's coming from, strong winds can cause catastrophic damage to your farm buildings.
FMG supports many customers each year who suffer a loss to their farm buildings, feed and equipment due to strong winds, and paid out almost $800,000 last year alone.
Because these customers were insured under FMGs’ RuralPak Farm Buildings and Farm Contents cover, they were able to repair the buildings and restock damaged feed without anyone going hungry.
How can you avoid the same loss?
- Plant trees suitable for shelterbelts such as the Leyland Cypress in areas that will help protect your property from severe winds
- Having a maintenance plan in place to regularly check your farm buildings can prevent damage to your property and members of your family - lose gates, doors and roofing iron can soon turn into dangerous missiles in high winds
Make sure your insurance policy is able to cover:
- At least the present day value of your building and contents
- Any reasonable additional costs you incur to keep your farm running
- The repair and replacement of your farm fences if lost to a storm or flood - high winds is often accompanied by torrential rain!
