FMG's Chair Peter Jensen passes baton

FMG Chairman Peter Jensen retired from the FMG Board of Directors at the AGM on Tuesday 28th August 2007 after five years in the role and 16 years on the Board. He will be replaced by Greg Gent as Chairman.

Mr Jensen has had a long and distinguished career in the dairy industry starting with management positions in his local dairy co-operative. He eventually became Deputy Chairman of the NZ Dairy Board. He has been active in several cooperatively run organisations where he has contributed keenly to the success of those businesses including the New Zealand Kiwifruit Marketing Board, Satara Co-operative Group, as well as FMG. Other Directorships held by Mr Jensen over the years include Ballance Agri-Nutrients Ltd, Landcorp, Dairy Equity Ltd and Dairying Research Corporation.

"Peter is very highly regarded in the rural industry and has been an active member of the FMG Board for many years," said Chief Executive Gordon Smith. "His strategic input, vision and passion for our industry will be sorely missed."

Mr Jensen has received numerous accolades for his service to the dairy industry including his appointment as an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2000 and the The Sir John Monash Gold Medal for Agribusiness Cooperative Directors in 2003.

Greg Gent took up the role as FMG Chairman as of Tuesday 28th August 2007. He has been an integral member of the FMG Board of Directors since 2005 and, like his predecessor, has extensive experience in the rural sector.

Mr Gent is a professional Director with a number of dairy sector directorships, including Fonterra Co-operative Group, AGRI Fund and FMG.  He has previously served as Deputy Chairman of the New Zealand Dairy Board and was a director of the Northland Co-operative Dairy Co Limited since 1993.  In 1994, he became Deputy Chairman and assumed the Chairmanship in 1995. He joined the board of Kiwi Co-operative Dairies Limited following the Northland/Kiwi merger in 1999 during which time he was Chairman of Kiwi.

Mr Gent began his career working for the Bank of New Zealand in 1972. After five years he made a successful move into dairying and now owns three dairy farms and two grazing blocks in Ruawai, Northland. In 2002 Mr Gent completed the Advanced Management Programme at INSEAD, France.
