Residential Recovery Plan

On Thursday, 17 November 2011, the Government announced the next steps in the Christchurch residential recovery program. 

The land has been categorised into the following four zones for the purposes of determining eventual outcomes:  

ZONE

DESCRIPTION

RED

The land has suffered significant and extensive damage and there is a high risk of further damage from low levels of shaking. The Government has announced a package. Please check the Government’s website www.landcheck.org.nz  to check what zone your property is in.

ORANGE

Due to additional damage following 13 June 2011 event, the land requires further assessment and engineering work. The Government will make further announcements on this land when the reclassification is available.

GREEN

No significant land issues that prevent repairs or rebuilding based on current adopted seismic standards. Insurers can continue claim settlements on repairs and rebuilds on individual’s properties.

Land in the green zone has been divided into three technical categories - TC1 (grey), TC2 (yellow) and TC3 (blue). These categories describe how the land in expected to perform in future earthquakes, click here for more information on the technical categories.

WHITE

The land is either unzoned or currently unmapped. This land is currently being assessed so that is can be reclassified. Please check the Government’s website www.landcheck.org.nz to check what zone your property is in. 
 

What we will be doing next

FMG assessors and our building project management company, Maxim, are continuing to carry out our assessments of all customer claims in Canterbury. Once your assessment has been completed and costed you will receive further information from FMG, which provides your insurance decision options.

FMG will continue to assess houses in all of the classified zones as a key priority and will continue to consult with customers throughout this process.
