Rural fire helicopter trial

Every summer our clients in the Canterbury region face the real risk of rural fires, caused by soaring temperatures and hot winds, getting out of control and becoming a threat to their property. These ‘wild’ fires can spread very quickly threatening feed, stock, assets and life.

Due to this threat, last summer FMG ran a Rural Fire Helicopter Trial during the months of December to April. FMG provided clients in the Selwyn, Hurunui and Waimakiri districts with the ability to hire a helicopter to fight a ‘wild fire’ for up to one hour, up to $5,000.

This meant that after dialling emergency services, an FMG client could immediately get a helicopter in the air to help halt the spread of the fire.

FMG is committed to supporting our customers identify and mitigate the risks they face - for some of them the risk of a wild fire is very real.  We've worked with Rural Fire Officers, Councils and clients and are pleased to be able to offer this insurance benefit this summer.
