Bonavaree Farm is situated in Grassmere and the drought that took hold during the late 1990s was the worst drought on record.
Accepting what was in their control, and being willing to try different farm management systems meant their business not only survived the drought, but continues to thrive. The family won the 2010 South Island Farmer of the Year.
Through this experience Doug has learned 'emotional resilience' and now speaks to mental wellbeing, heading up roadshows across the country called Resilient Farmer, which FMG is proud to be a major sponsor of. This resilience has helped Doug and his family to overcome more recent challenges - including the Seddon earthquake and 220km/hr winds in 2013. You can follow Doug on Facebook here.
