Goods in Transit

Goods in Transit

Cover for your goods, refrigerated goods, and livestock while they’re being transported within New Zealand.

What we cover

The FMG Goods in Transit policy automatically includes these covers and benefits.

Covers your property, including livestock, refrigerated goods, produce and other goods if they are accidentally damaged, destroyed or lost while being transported by vehicle in New Zealand, provided the accidental loss was caused by:

  • fire, lightning, explosion or flood,
  • burglary,
  • theft while the property was securely attached to the vehicle and the locks or padlocks are visibly damaged,
  • vehicle collision or overturning,
  • loading or unloading of the vehicle, or
  • falling from the vehicle.

If your claim has been accepted we’ll cover up to $10,000 for the reasonable costs to prepare, present or certify it, for example if you need to hire an accountant to quantify your loss.

Optional extra

You can purchase this Optional Benefit for even more comprehensive insurance.

You’re insured for the deterioration or putrefaction of your refrigerated or temperature controlled goods due to a rise in temperature caused by a machinery breakdown.

What we pay

We’ll pay the reasonable cost to repair, reinstate or replace the goods, their present day value or the amount shown on your certificate, whichever is less.

Cover is for the present day value of the livestock, or the amount shown on your certificate, whichever is less.

If your livestock is injured on the way to the slaughterhouse and only part of the carcass is rejected, then we’ll only pay for the present day value of the rejected portion

Present day value is the market value of the goods immediately before the loss and takes into account age and condition.
