The Golden Shears, is an internationally recognised competition for its quality and excellence in the skilful art of shearing and wool handling.
The four days of competitions encompass novice, junior, intermediate, senior and open shearing and wool handling along with singles and pairs wool pressing as well as the coveted triathlon award.
The events success is heavily contributed to the local Wairarapa community and the 250+ volunteers that support the event. While
many visitors are locally based, the 400 competitors and spectators alike come from anywhere between Kaitaia and Bluff.
2026 will be bigger than ever with not only the Golden Shears taking place but also the Golden Shears World Shearing and Woolhandling Championship.
