Jess Rawlings, her husband Jordan, and their daughters Zailie and Avana live the lifestyle block dream.
With five acres at the gateway to the Mahurangi Harbour, in between work and school Jess and her family spend their free-time horse riding,
exploring local walks, and at the beach.
“We’re both in our early 30s and after we’d had our girls we really wanted to move and raise them on a lifestyle block where we could have horses and Jordan could go surfing.”
Jess, who is a midwife, and Jordan, an electrician, left the bustle of the city and moved to their dream block three years ago.
“Last year after an accident, Jordan was diagnosed with osteoporosis. We didn’t expect it at all, and it’s taken a year for him to recover. It was quite shocking as we’re both young and healthy,” says Jess.
Jess and her daughters attend the local pony club every Tuesday evening alongside FMG’s Life & Health Adviser, Fran Wilkin, and her children.
“I was talking to Fran about Jordan’s diagnosis, and while he had ACC support, she was keen to help us with Life & Health cover in case something like Jordan’s diagnosis happened again.
“Fran sat down with us and went through everything that we needed as a family. The biggest thing that we walked away with after talking with Fran is that the cover gives us time if something happens. We wouldn’t have to rush any decisions.”
Jess says they were also surprised when the quotes for the cover came back, as they previously misconceived it was expensive.
“It’s a small price to pay to take the stress away. We know in the back of our minds now we have the cover that we don’t have to think about ‘what if?’
