The FMG Young Farmer of the Year contest is back for its 57th year and with that, the FMG and NZ Younger Farmers Region-Off is back for its third year too. The Region-Off brings together the AgriKids, Junior and Young Farmer winners from the seven regions across the country to compete for the national title of regional pride.
“We love a bit of healthy competition here in New Zealand. Ask any Kiwi to name the best farming region in NZ, and they’ll proudly claim it’s their own. The FMG and NZ Younger Farmers Region-Off will crown this year’s winning region,” says Charlotte Cooley, Head of Events, Travel and Sponsorship.
“FMG is committed to building strong and prosperous rural communities and 2025 marks our tenth year as the principal sponsor of the FMG Young Farmer of the Year Contest. The Region-Off is a fantastic way to encourage the next generation of farmers to get out there to connect and support their community.”
Regions earns points by completing community-focused challenges and through public voting. Examples of community support activities include helping older people with tasks around their home, fixing fences, cooking meals, and delivering firewood.
Last year, Taranaki Manawatu claimed the top spot, while East Coast took the title in the inaugural year.
Throw your support behind the region you believe deserves to win! Voting is open to the public until 5pm on 5 July 2025, and all voters will go into the draw to win a $500 Prezzy Card.
The winning region will be announced at the grand final night in Invercargill on 5 July 2025, and will take home $8,000 worth of prizes:
- $5,000 for their chosen charity
- $1,000 to the senior contestant
