Live Well, Farm Well
Farmstrong was launched in 2015 with the core belief that farmers and growers are the most important asset on the farm, so we’ve got to make sure they’re looking after themselves.
Why be Farmstrong?
When you look after yourself, you’re looking after the farm too. Farming is a job with a unique set of challenges, many of which are hard to predict or control. But what you can control is healthy habits that can help you perform at your best, even when times are tough and Farmstrong is here to give farmers the tools to Live Well and Farm Well.
"Farmers, growers and their workers are the most important asset on the farm. Keeping in shape mentally and physically helps you put the best into the farm, so the farm can give the best back to you."
Sam Whitelock, Farmstrong Ambassador
What Farmstrong offers
Farmstrong works with experts, organisations, farmers, growers and the wider community to look at how to support the health and wellbeing of rural New Zealand.
The programme is based on practical support and advice to help farmers and growers identify what they want/need to work on and lock in changes they want to make to improve their overall wellbeing.
This is done through:
- Sharing farmers' stories about what works for them, supported by advice created from wellbeing experts
- Creating online tools and resources through farmstrong.co.nz
- Hosting and supporting a range of events, workshops, and education forums
- Encouraging community-led events and initiatives that help farmers stay connected and have breaks.
Making an impact
Farmstrong was established by FMG in partnership with the Mental Health Foundation, with the support of Movember Foundation. ACC has since joined the programme as a strategic partner.
Farmstrong received the Supreme Award at the 2020 New Zealand Workplace Health and Safety Awards for best overall contribution to improving workplace health and safety in New Zealand, as well as the award for best leadership of an industry sector or region.
