Household Contents

Household Contents

Covers you and your family’s personal contents at home and while you’re out and about.

What we cover

The FMG Household Contents policy automatically includes these covers and benefits.

Covers your contents if they are damaged or destroyed by a sudden, unintended and unforeseen event, or if they’re stolen.

Up to $1,000,000 cover for your legal liability if you accidentally damage someone else’s property, or injure someone.

If your keys are lost or stolen we’ll pay to replace them and you won’t need to pay an excess. This also covers devices you use to enter your property like electronic access cards and remote door openers.

Cover up to $5,000 towards the cost of refilling your fire fighting equipment after it’s been used to protect your contents from loss covered by this policy.

If all your contents are destroyed we’ll make a $5,000 advance payment within 48 hours of accepting your claim. Please note we will deduct this advance from the settlement of your claim.

If you’re on holiday in Australia your personal effects, cellphones, hearing aids, glasses and sports equipment are insured for accidental loss while you’re there and when you’re in transit. Cover is for up to 30 days from the time you leave New Zealand.

We’ll pay up to $5,000 for gradual damage to your contents. This is hidden damage that happens over time and is caused by a leaking internal waste or water pipe installed at your home and at the point that pipe connects to a household appliance.

Up to $30,000 cover for temporary accommodation costs if your home is damaged and can't be lived in. This includes the cost of moving contents, storage costs, and even boarding for your cats or dogs.

You’re insured for accidental loss to a set of hearing aids, prescription glasses and dentures.  A maximum limit of $5,000 applies to these items so remember to specify them if they’re worth more.

If your freezer or fridge breaks down, is accidentally turned off, or if there’s a power cut, we’ll cover the loss of frozen or perishable food up to a maximum of $3000.

If an item is part of a pair or set, like chairs or couches, and a matching replacement can’t be found then this covers replacement of the entire set.
